Title: Great progress at the field today April 1st!
Post by astroflyer on Apr 1st, 2012 at 6:06pm
Fantastic day at the field today.  The whole setup is almost complete AND we had a flight filled afternoon as well!

The morning was taken up with transporting items, more mowing and setting up the site.

We still have to move the two shelters. the porta-potty and the greenlee box.

Sunday Craig brought his trailer which transported the mower and some starting tables, Alain's truck was used for picnic tables, Paul's chain saw and muscle cut a bunch of trees away from the approach to the runway.

Other much needed muscle came from Joe, Jon, Chris Quigley and Geoff.  Bill and I did some measuring to MAAC guidlines (the light stuff) and mostly I just took pictures.

the previous day Ed Harpell and I moved the pilot stations and fencing using Ian's (ed's son) truck.  Along with Bill we spent some time at the old site digging out the cement block under the greenlee box.  This had to be removed to allow Derek to plow up the field.

Also on Saturday Joe, Alain and Chris Quigley did some heavy lifting getting most of the pilot stations and a couple of picnic tables out to the site.  Again, many thanks for Alain's truck.

great job folks for a quick and flawless setup.

Jim Goddard and his wife Carol dropped in for a visit today as well.  It was good to see Jim.  and Carol too!  ;D

Pix 3 and 4.  Craig, Joe and Jon assembling the barbecue.  when finished Joe proceeded to cook the hotdogs and sausages provided by joe and jon.  Great lunch guys.

then after lunch we did a lot of flying.  winds were generally light, occasionally a bit gusty, but once again pretty much down the runway.

1.  the flight line ready to go

2. Paul's 60 size hangar 9 twist off for it's maiden flight.

3.  flew very well in paul's capable hands.  Nice airplane!

4.  Alain's pt-19, motor stopped, heading for a landing.

A few stryker flights, this time with Craig joining Jon and Joe for the chase.  I think the two "J"'s were a bit surprised at Craig's agressive flying.  ;D

Go get 'em Craig!   ;D

1. coming through the turn

2. close together down the strip

3. one flight finished

4.  Jon got bunted into the rough!  ;D

Wow !

I never saw a flying field erected so fast ! It looked like a very well managed Military Exercise.......i would call it, "Operation Up-Lift" !
From looking at all the nice sunny pictures on the web down here from Florida made me wonder, how come you Guys had all the heavy coats, sweaters and hats on up there ?

Congratulations for a job well done ! 8-)
