Title: Making of a Jetcat model jet engine
Post by RocketManRC on Feb 6th, 2013 at 5:17pm
Here is an interesting video about the making of a Jetcat model jet engine:

I am not responsible if anyone decides they want one of these after watching it!  ;)

Really interesting stuff.  Thanks for that.

Oh yes you are Rick….  you now have some of us in a frenzy!   Unfortunately it is now illegal to sell off your grandkids to buy aircraft parts.  ::)

IMHO it is somewhat silly to spend so much money for an aircraft  that will ultimately meet the same demise as a three hundred dollar model.

Could you not say that about a 100$ ARF compared to a 300$ ARF ,  what modelers spend their money on aids on / in  the different models we see in the air and look forward to see flying !  IMHO

Thanks for posting that Rick.  Quite a bit of tech goes into the fabrication of the turbines.  Love the sound and speed you can get out of these things and hope to have one someday.

As far as cost goes, I have some toys that cost me $100 and some that cost me $1500.  I have fun flying them all and don't feel silly in the least for buying any of them, provided they are within my budget.  I'm glad there are guys out there that can afford to spend $10,000 on a jet because I get to enjoy seeing (and hearing) them fly.  That's they beauty of this hobby, there is something in it for nearly everyone.  :)

I think it is wonderful that there is enough of a market to support the manufacture of gear like that Jetcat engine. I would love to see a heli with one of those in it! (hint, hint, Craig).

Another thing that I've been following this winter is Horizon Hobby's introduction of the Evolution 10cc gas engine. There is a really interesting thread about it here:

There is quite a bit of discussion by the developers about the challenge of making such a tiny gasoline engine.

It's only $200 but same disclaimer as last time applies!

Fred of the Northumberland club brought the Evolution 10cc to an indoor session…   Nice looking engine with the slanted cooling fins.
