Title: Heli video from July 22
Post by RocketManRC on Jul 23rd, 2013 at 3:51pm
First one for Robert of him practicing with his Blade 450 3D:

and then my first test of the "rescue mode" of the Skookum Robotics SK-GPS on my 450:

To explain what is happening in that one, the rescue is initiated by the GPS unit (add-on to the SK-720 flybarless controller) when the heli goes lower than the preset 'hard' floor (10m in this case). I was testing by descending in nose-in inverted orientation and the rescue ends up piro flipping to upright, tail-in, and then climbing to about 5m above the floor where it stops and hovers.

The minimum altitude you can set for the rescue hard floor is 8m which seems a bit too high for the 450 but would probably be fine for a 500 or bigger.

The SK-GPS contains a GPS for position, a magnetometer for heading and a barometric altimeter. The SK-720 flybarless controller contains gyros and accelerometers and is capable of self-leveling on its own.

Thanks for the video of the 450 Rick, it's the first one I've seen with me flying a heli. Nice an clear.

The rescue mode is pretty impressive in the video of your heli. Could have used it later that day myself. My 450 is back together now after my dumping it later in the day.
