We had two flights on the mosquito Saturday. Early into the second flight there was a horrible screech from the right engine and the plane lurched hard to the right, lost speed and almost immediately stalled to the right.

On the video you can clearly hear the power still up, but as soon as I started a turn to the left back to the field, it dropped the right wing and went in. You can hear the power being pulled back as it headed for the ground.

damage is quite severe, but rae said he might consider rebuilding it next winter.

Wonder if it threw a magnet. What a shame...

I had my corsair up today three times... Unfortunately on a touch and go I nosed it over caught the prop and threw another magnet in the motor >:(

Hate to see that, guys. :( Awesome looking plane and a ton of work put into it. Hopefully, it will be repairable.

Sorry to hear about mosquito loss . I feel for you it was a nice plane. Sounds like armature rubbed magnets. Loss mags or bearing sezie up. Probly not timing as there was no previous issues on first flight. Damn shame. Gravity gods been hard on a lot of us this year. :-[

Looks like we figured out the cause of the crash. Rae pulled the motors and brought them to my place this morning. He indicated one of the three wires to the right motor was unplugged.

On inspection of that connection, we could see serious burning on the connector, so it must have worked loose in it's socket causing arching. From the burning on the very end of the male pin, looks like it must have been almost disconnected when the arcing took place.

The crash must have pulled it free, but the arcing had to occur during the flight. explains why the sound we heard sounding like motor timing and why the right motor slowed causing the yaw.

I think it slowed twice actually, first during the big yaw and the second time when the plane actually stalled to the right. It seemed to fly out of the first yaw for a second or two just fine and then the stall to the right.

Terrible luck. I actually had that happen once on a maiden. Luckily I didn't do much damage. Heat shrinked the connections after that.

I have watched the key parts of the video several times. I am struck by how quickly the nose dropped.

Is there any idea of the wing loading? What was the approximate weight of the plane?

The plane did not seem to have any tendency to glide. It seems to have just fallen. Maybe I am not seeing it clearly due to the distance. I am just taken aback by the almost vertical descent.
