Title: at the field friday july 11th
Post by FLC on Jul 11th, 2014 at 10:23pm
Rick, Rob and I spent the entire day at the field friday.  Nice warm, not hot, sorta overcast, not very windy kind of day. perfect!

Lots of flying!

rick test flew his craig/al/rick sundowner for the first time on eight cells and a whopping motor.  Data downloaded from the receiver calculated a speed in the area of 106 MPH.  It reminded me of Jon's speed plane where you could only punch the throttle for a second or two before running out of field.

photo three shows the cell layout, six in front and another two in a separate red pack below the wing tube.

a happy camper.  Several flights flown on it today and rick tells me has has built a small GPS unit which will be installed in the canopy to measure actual speed.  Hopefully I'll see that saturday.

in other news rick and I were fooling around with  my mobious camera equipped quad and his foamy and this video is the result.  watch to the end for the best part.

the camera wide angle pushes things away and rick was amazingly close to the quad at times although it doesn't appear that close.

Your hat is fine. You just have to wear it with the ear muffs down.  Lol

As a follow up on this, my DIY GPS speedometer worked well. There was a slight breeze and we clocked the Sundowner at 180 km/hr downwind and (slightly later) at 173 km/hr upwind.

I'm trying for 200 :-)
