Title: Looking for the fastest aircraft at ASRCM :-)
Post by RocketManRC on Sep 7th, 2014 at 9:31pm
Just for fun.

I built a GPS based speedometer a few months ago when I was trying to get the Sundowner to go supersonic (no chance for that) and today Al and I were trying it out on various aircraft:

Dogfighter 11x5.5 prop 127 km/hr
Dogfighter 9x9 prop 161 km/hr
Trex500 104 km/hr
Parkzone StrykerQ 180 km/hr (wow, same as the best so far for the Sundowner)
Skywing MXS 109 km/hr (hey, it is a foam 3D airplane)

This device of mine measures ground speed so doesn't take into account the wind, but I figure if you can fly it, go for it. I'm just looking for the fastest no matter what. lol.

I am interested in seeing what Craig's Goblins can do as well as Jon's Flying Machine and Tuscano. Sorry Joe, I don't think there is any way we can squeeze this device inside your Hawk and I don't think it's safe to fasten it on the outside. Although it might be ok to tape it on the outer edge of one wing and put the equivalent ballast on the other...

that's a pretty slick little unit Rick has conjured up.  Based on what I saw today Joe's hotliner has to be well over 200 kmh.  Craig's gobbler getting up there too I'd expect.

the surprise was the strykerQ.  screaming machine!

BTW about three degrees of right thrust has turned my dogfighter from that animal on launch to a very userfriendly little plane.

You can try this in my Habu 32 Rick!!!

New speed record today :-)

Chris' new Funjet at 188 km/hr with no tail wind!

We didn't need the speedometer to know it was going really fast...

Meanwhile Robert's Eflite Carbon-Z Yak was clocked at 158. Not expected and not too shabby.

I demand a re-test!  Lol

No problem Al. All you need to do is stick a 4S pack in that Dogfighter and you will clean up!

A couple of more results last Thursday (no challengers here):

Rob's Parkzone Mustang on 4S: 131 km/hr (seems faster than it is)

Rob's Parkzone Spitfire: 122 km/hr

Still waiting for you to show up with your Rifle Trevor!

He'll need a rifle once he realizes it's not as fast as he thinks.  :)

Think I'm going to have to put a JATO on the mustang to get anywhere near those top speeds.
