Title: the field is ready to start flying!
Post by FLC astroflyer on Apr 19th, 2016 at 4:06pm
Went to check the field today and was blown away!  The road is totally dry, dry and hard.  Only a couple of puddles, one section at the bottom of the pasture and one section half way through the woods.

Put on my mud boots and left willow home as I figured she'd get covered and then foul the new car.  No need, could have worn sneakers and not gotten a spot of mud on them.

The grass is green and growing.  No winter damage this year.  It'll need to be cut in about a week/week and a half.

Time to get some gravel.

Higher cars could have gone right to the field today.  Mine would have probably dragged it's bottom on one spot where the center is pretty high.  The usual wet spot turning off the road into the pasture is still wet somewhat, but could have been gotten through today.  Someone already has driven through there.

The runway today.

These last two shots is where I got mired last fall.  Pretty firm there today!

I couldn't resist stopping by the field to take the dog for a walk and see if there was anything I could do to help drain the last bit of water off the road.

The final turn off to the pasture was still pretty soupy.

To try and speed things up I cut a trench to get the water moving and then filled the low spots with some more dirt as well as some gravel and rocks I collected.

By the time I left, it had firmed up a bit but it would be a disaster if a car drove straight through.

However, if you keep to the high on the far left of the turn it is easily passable and it should be no problem to drive straight up to the field.

Anyone else see the stunning weather forecast for the next couple of days?  :)

Thanks for doing that!  I walked Willow up there tonight and that looks darned good.  Much dryer than yesterday.  Indeed, no problem getting through there.

Rick and I are planning on flying tomorrow and again on Friday.  Paul has mentioned he is going out on Saturday.
