We must never forget. The background in this composite is an aluminum ash tray hand carved during WW2 by a Spryfield, NS airman during his time at the Evere airbase in Brussels. This beautiful item was fashioned from the propeller blade of a German Heinkel 111 lying abandoned on the airfield and presented after the war to his friend, another Halifax area resident and a spitfire pilot at the base who at 96 resides today in Dartmouth. The maker of this spitfire died in 1996 at the age of 82.  The ash tray which by choice has never seen a cigrarette was donated last year to the Atlantic Aviation Museum at the Stanfield Airport and is now permanently on display there.

For those interested in the story of these two friends here is a link to a brief item written for the newsletter of the Model Aircraft Association of Canada.  http://www.asrcm.ns.ca/files/September_2015_Newsletter.pdf
