Title: At the field August 8th Post by FLC astroflyer on Aug 9th, 2018 at 10:05am
Rick and I were at the field last night. Very hot! But an absolutely windless day, almost an eerie calm.
Rick has a new parachute/bomb drop mechanism with a separate remote and it was tried last night first on his DJI phantom. Due to the sensors under this drone, mounting the drop mechanism was a problem and it proved to be a problem flying as well. Must have blocked a sensor or two as the DJI did some weird things, climbing and dropping by itself and generally twitchy. Rick did drop the parachutist though. so FAIL on that experiment. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Next, try it on the funcub. Again, no visible means of support so some velcro around the nose and drag the poor guy through the grass on his face. lol The drop was successful though.
But the parachute failed to open and said parachutist came down into the tree line. Not far enough to get lost luckily. An open parachute and it might have drifted down somewhere near Rick's telemaster. lol ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

In other news, Rick shot some new photos of our field from the phantom.
