ASRCM weekend Aug 23/24th
Aug 24th, 2014 at 9:46pm

Fantastic weekend at the field.  Jon and Alain camped out, I stayed saturday night for a steak and a couple of beers.   Very windy on Saturday but a super nice low wind and sun day sunday.  Much, much flying done including a lot of warbird stuff!

Paul's spitfire made several flights.

Alain was smoothly flying this hangar 9 corsair.  Many many low and aggressive passes throughout the weekend.  Very pretty bird!

Jon and Alain flew a number of formation flights with their hangar 9 me-109's.  Very smooth and at times quite close flying.  Great stuff gents!

I have some video which I will cut later.  I missed shooting video of the flights saturday night when my camera was not at the field, but I had a front row seat walking willow as they made low passes directly in my field of view.

Some of the passes were so low that Rob took steps to move two bushes that had grown about five feet high off the end of our runway.  Jon was down below the top of and between these several times!  And note the field drops down off the end of our runway, so being down below the tops of these meant just prop clearance distance on the runway itself!

Marc Roy was down on the deck a lot this weekend also with both his big Jug and Focke Wulf gassers.   Both super airplanes being flown by a very competent pilot!  Thanks for the photo ops Marc!

Trevor got in a fast and windy flight on his great planes rifle pylon racer on Saturday, including a very high speed landing.  That thing will slow down a tad more than that Trevor!  LOL

Colin did the launching chores.

Colin's Goblin took on a south seas personality with sunglasses and a forehead mobious camera.  Haven't seen that video yet colin...hint, hint.

I got in three more glider tug flights with Jon's big carbon cub, towing his Cularis to altitude.  The glider still oscillated slightly on the line today but was much easier to control.  Not sure if that was due to my slower towing speed or the lack of the high winds we had on Saturday.

Jon got off the tow line easily all three times and even found some thermal activity to fool around in although he was heard to complain about the lazy and relaxed flying.  He was really into the towing part though and after doing a roll or two, a split-s or two and a few other oscillations in the thermal he was heard muttering something about looking foreward to the slope event next weekend.

Thanks to Rob Guildford for the expert use of my camera in making these photos!

He seemed to be into some lazy and relaxed flying with his big beaver though making several long duration flights with this venerable bird.

For those who think electrics cannot fly for very long, note that his longest flight today on one charge was 31.5 minutes.  All his other flights were in the 25 minute range.  An 8s battery on an eflite power 90 motor.  Forget what this plane weighs but it was build by an old timer years ago and was originally powered by a 90 two stroke.

in the last photo he is side slipping Mike Whitelaw style to a one wheel touch and go down the full length of the runway.

The large carbon cub is good for more than glider towing.  It was seen hovering a few times this weekend.

I almost forgot.

Flying united!  Saw a couple of these couples coupling over the weekend.  LOL

While they're loathe to, they actually can fly while coupled.

Sadly, the video from the Goblin isn't very good, it's extremely shaky and hard to watch. The only thing it really shows is how the machine hauls a$$  Cheesy I am happy to upload it but I warn you, it's hard on the eyes.
