FPV quad racing at ASRCM
Jul 18th, 2015 at 9:46pm

Racing those small 250 quads using FPV is getting pretty popular at ASRCM.  Although no organized racing is taking place YET, at least eight of these little machines are in operation and members have been pushing them further and further  on each visit to the field.  this weekend was no exception.

Things started early on Friday and when I arrived at about 9am, there were a half dozen guys already there with a gate setup along the far side of the runway.  Many many quad flights were flown.  I shot a lot of photos and we did a fast paced video with a mobious camera placed first on Joe Miller's quad and then on a pylon beside the foam gate.  Great shots from that camera and when editing the video tonight I decided not to use the stuff from my hand held Nikon and from my 350 quad overhead.  That stuff was boring compared to the footage from the mobious.

Video is edited but youtube tonight is absolutely crawling.  it's going to take hours when normal would be about twenty minutes, so you might not see this video tonight.  well worth the wait though, pretty entertaining video!

not sure whose quad this is, but it gets through the gate, sorta.  lol

That one would be mine lol!  Super fun day yesterday.  The little racing quads are some of the most fun I've had in 20 years of being involved in the hobby.

Lol, I think that video sums up the day pretty good Al, great job with the editing. It's amazing that the only thing we broke the whole day was a few props.  Now I just need to build a few more gates. Smiley

Great video Al that was hilarious! It looks like you guys had a great day!

The shots of a bunch of you guys all rushing the gate at the same time were awesome.

Nicely done on the gate system as well. It seemed to fairly solid but break away when you needed it to.

recut the video slightly adding a few shots form my hand held camera.   forgot to delete the extra video at the end of the timeline so when you come to black, it's the end.  lol

It's amazing how tough these things are! Almost all of the damage has been limited to broken props. But lots of those however Grin

Me and Craig were out tonight racing the Quads around a rough course we put together.  It was a blast!  Here's a vid I took while I was trying t follow Craig around the track.  My flight ended quickly when my fPV Cam crapped out for some reason.

fun video  craig!   some very close flying there especially at one point halfway through the video.  Rick has some catching up to do.  Serves him right for going to cape breton on a flying weekend.  Lol

Joe's quad was really showing up with the lights on the stern.  Must have been near dark when this was shot?

And after you both crashed at the end, what was that pasing over your quad?

Hey Al...that was Joe following me. It was around 8:30 last night. That was me at the end flying over Joe after he lost video.
It was great fun flying the course. Can't wait to go and do it again. I think we are planning to go out Wednesday evening. It's too dam hot during the day Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Yup, it is super fun racing around the course.  Also, the whole course only took about 15min to set up/take down so it's not a big deal to get going.
