Helping out
Jun 12th, 2016 at 1:01pm

On Saturday our RCMP friend Derek Eisner approached Myself and Rick MacDonald asking if we could shoot some aerial photos on a farm near Middle Musquodobout.  The farm owner John Dillman had suffered a heart attack last week and his neighbours and friends came together saturday to harvest his hay crop.  That's what friends and neighbours do here.

Rick and I shot both video and photos from the air and ground and I processed everything and uploaded it to a folder on Microsoft OneDrive, forwarding a link to the family last evening.  They were able to take that link to his hospital bed and using the hospital wifi show him things were ok back on the farm.  Derek told me this morning he was very emotional in seeing this and his family was extremely pleased with what we had done.

here is the link to rick's video:  https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=cdNVNVJtmqY

and the link to the folder showing the still shots form both quads and my regular camera on the ground.

Of course the best pictures of all by far are the ones of the tractors and the field that Al took from the ground with his Nikon!

I dunno Rick. I think the aerial shots are pretty stunning, especially that last one above from your quad showing several tractors working, and a view that people don't normally see.  The Nikon is sharper and crisper, but the overhead shots are more interesting.

We both felt pretty great doing it Paul and after sending the link I wasn't sure things had gone through, so when Derek told me they had shown the photos Saturday night, well that made my day!!

This inspired me to do some experimenting with video processing to get rid of the lens distortion - with Al's help, and license free background music. Here is a clip I made today:

Today I wrote an item about our little adventure on Saturday and sent it to Keith Morrison, editor of the MAAC magazine.  Just got confirmation it's being used in the next issue!
