State of the Field / Flying Access
Jul 18th, 2024 at 9:19pm

Hello SMAS members!

As you all know, there has been flooding and vehicle damage to the flying and grass parking area at the ASRCM field in Shubenacadie.

The SMAS executive are aware that the flying season is precious! Please be aware that the field is considered “open” for flying with the following restrictions:

1. Please do not drive/park on the grass. This risks further damaging the field as we wait for it to dry.
2. Please be aware that the landing area is very wet and in poor condition. If you do choose to fly, carefully assess the landing area and plan accordingly.

We hope that with your co-operation and enthusiasm, the field will soon be back in good shape, and we can all return to our regularly scheduled flying (and future BBQ!)

Thank you, fly safe and have fun.

The SMAS executive.

Field Conditions have Improved!!!

What a difference a few days can make....! Paul was at the field today and conditions are much improved. I am understanding that even the pits / parking area is drying and looking better too! This is good news and should open the parking area near the picnic tables up... but at your discretion. Be safe. We don't need or want more damage to the area! Some spots look better than others.

Field Access

We were in communications with the landowner and discussed the recent ATV issues. He supports the idea of having a chained gate at the bottom of the hill. That would need to be very clearly identified with flags or tires or other permanent means. There would be a combination lock too.

Even better yet... he has volunteered to put in the posts for us. He is quite busy so it might be delayed a bit... but all progress in the right direction.
